How to play

  1. Select 4 numbers.
  2. Build a calculation that equals the target, then press =.
  3. Use some of your four digits, each at most once — even a single number on its own is a valid solve, worth 1 point.
  4. Use all four digits in one calculation to score the full 3 points for that target.
  5. Above the target you see its stars: one star means only a simple solution exists (any solve earns it fully); two stars mean a four-digit solution exists — the first star for any solve, the second for solving with all four digits.
  6. You may join digits together (1 and 2 can make 12) and use + − × ÷ ^ and parentheses.
  7. If you need, get a hint — it shows half of a four-digit solution when one exists.
  8. √ takes the root of the number or bracket you just entered — it lights up only when the result would be a whole number. Targets and stars are always achievable with the five basic operations; the root is a bonus shortcut.
  9. Earn stars as your points add up: at 30, 75, 150, 225 and 300 points.
